Kenworth is now be including FuelSense packages for its Class 8 and medium-duty trucks with certain Allison transmissions.

The FuelSense package is available with the Allison Highway Series and Rugged Duty Series automatic transmissions.

FuelSense is made up of a package of software and electronic controls that target critical components of a truck’s duty cycle to help enhance fuel savings, according to the company. It incorporates features that automatically adapt shift schedules and torque, which Kenworth says maximizes transmission efficiency based on load, grade and duty cycle.

FuelSense is available in three packages and each one is equipped with Allison’s 5th generation electronic controls which are designed to help with fuel economy.

The base package comes with EcoCal, which works to lower engine speed, and Dynamic Shift Sensing, which automatically selects between EcoCal and a higher shift speed schedule, based on the load and grade on which it is operating.

The FuelSense Plus package adds Neutral at Stop, which eliminates load on the engine when the vehicle is stopped to help reduce non-productive fuel consumption.

The FuelSense Max package adds Acceleration Rate Management, which automatically controls the engine torque. This feature comes in base, high and ultra economy options.
