Bellevue, Wash.-based Odom Corp. has added a video telematics system to its fleet of 354 beverage delivery trucks to nudge its drivers toward safer driving habits and improve its branding.

Odom, which installed the Lytx DriveCam system, is a leading distributor for Coca Cola, MillerCoors, Heineken, Arizona Tea, and other brands. The fleet operates in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and Hawaii. Driving conditions such as icy roads, blizzards, and short daylight hours in the winter present additional risks to fleet safety.

"Trucks are targets for accidents because they think companies have deep pockets," said Darrin Stockman, Odom's delivery and fleet manager. "We do a good job training our drivers, and now with the DriveCam video, we’re able to prove where fault really lies."

Stockman said he likes the system as a coaching tool that can help him address any deficiencies with his drivers. Since implementing the system, driving events captured by the event recorder have decreased along with small dents and dings.

"Really good drivers are hard to come by, so we want to recognize and praise our drivers when they do a good job," Stockman said.
