The Paccar MX-11 engine will be available for Peterbilt’s flagship Model 579 and vocational Model 567 trucks beginning Nov. 13, the company has announced.
The 10.8-liter, six-cylinder engine will be available for order through Peterbilt dealerships with production beginning in January. The MX-11 has an output of up to 430 horsepower and 1,550 lb.-ft. of torque and is designed for regional haul, bulk haul, construction, and refuse applications, according to Peterbilt.
Designed to be lightweight and durable, the MX-11 uses compacted graphite iron in both the engine block and cylinder head. The material is 20% lighter and 75% stronger than traditional gray iron, said Peterbilt. To optimize combustion for lower fuel consumption and noise levels, the engine uses a common rail fuel system with injection pressures of 2,500 bar.
“The Paccar MX-11 engine is a great addition to Peterbilt’s lineup of technologically advanced solutions,” said Darrin Siver, Peterbilt general manager and Paccar vice president. “The Paccar MX-11 engine provides outstanding value in a lightweight and fuel efficient design, and will continue to exceed our high standards and our customers’ expectations.”
All Peterbilt dealer locations will provide full support for the MX-11 engine. It is being produced at the Paccar engine facility in Columbus, Miss., where the Paccar MX-13 is produced.
