Cummins and Cummins Westport are recalling just over 25,000 Cummins Westport Model ISL G engines manufactured Sep. 12, 2007 through Feb. 2, 2014 and Cummins Westport Model ISX12 G engines manufactured Feb. 19, 2013, through Feb. 2, 2014.

Condensation in the intake manifold may freeze during cold weather conditions and interfere with the proper operation of the intake manifold pressure sensor. The improper operation of the sensor could induce elevated exhaust temperatures or flames from the exhaust pipe, increasing the risk of a fire or burn injury to a person near the exhaust pipe.

Cummins and Cummins Westport dealers will upload a new ECM calibration, free of charge, to remedy the problem.

The two companies began notifying the affected vehicle manufacturers on Feb. 14. The manufacturers have not yet provided a schedule for notifying vehicle owners.

For more information, call 1-800-343-7357. Cummins' number for this recall is C1462 for ISL G engines and C1461 for ISX12 G engines.

Cummins Westport is a 50-50 joint venture formed in 2001 between Cummins and Westport Innovations.

Yet another reason, in addition to Cummins and Westport cancelling or indefinitely postponing their development of a 15 liter NG engine, and multiple other factors, that customers in the heavy duty / long haul cartage market are flocking toward American Power Group's V5000HD diesel/natural gas conversion....which you (Heavy Duty Trucking) also noted as one of the top 20 developments in trucking for 2014.
