Meritor is adding a 12,500-pound rating for its front steer axles. This new rating enhances steering control, improves durability and lowers maintenance costs, according to the company.

"With this new rating our customers will be able to handle bigger loads without increasing front axle weight. This will, in turn, help to increase fuel economy and save our customers' mone,." says Ken Hogan, general manager for non-drive front axles and drivelines.

Features of the non-drive front steer axles include:

- A draw-key design offering greater lateral stability, more even loading and greater retention for reduced wear

- Meritor bold on king pin cap that reduces contaminant ingress, which may increase wear and decrease service life

- Meritor steer bushings have more friction to optimize steer effort ease without front-axle vibration

The Meritor axle warranty for linehaul applications is five years or 750,000 miles with parts and labor included. Meritor Advantage Plans offer extended coverage up to seven years in linehaul applications.
