Cadec Global has debuted its DeliveryTracker DCS, a handheld pickup and delivery application.
DeliveryTracker DCS is designed for independent contractors, who have no need for on-board computing hardware.

The application, which runs on handheld devices from Honeywell, Intermec and Motorola, provides electronic manifests, dynamic pickup and delivery instructions, invoice printing, barcode scanning and electronic signature capture.

The system allows independent operators to collect and wirelessly send pickup and delivery information to the office, giving fleet managers more visibility into the driver's activities. The application also helps reduce invoicing errors and enables companies to produce invoices more quickly, Cadec says.

"Cadec plays a central role in NFPT's overall transportation management strategy," said Roger Nordtvedt, director and general manager of Northwest Food Products Transportation (NFPT), which implemented the system. "As our independent operator base expanded, we needed to ensure that those vehicles would be tied in to our overall fleet management system. Cadec's DeliveryTracker DCS enables us to do that easily and relatively inexpensively, without our having to install fixed systems in contract vehicles."

Drivers enter their delivery information, and the handheld device wirelessly sends the data to the central office as an XML file.

"In talking with customers, we quickly found that pickup and delivery tracking was their primary need," said Michael Baney, CEO of Cadec. "DeliveryTracker DCS improves customer service and significantly streamlines the delivery process, enabling drivers to make more stops, and improving the accuracy and turnaround time of invoices."
