Sterling Truck Corp. said the new DD15 engine is now available for order in the heavy-duty Sterling Set-Back A-Line and Set-Back L-Line models.
The DD15 is the result of the largest investment ever
made in the development of an engine by a manufacturer and is offered in output and torque variants from 455 horsepower to 560 horsepower and 1,550 to 1,850 pounds-feet, including dual torque ratings for special applications. The engine is on display today in a Set-Back A-Line truck at the Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) meeting in Orlando, Fla.
"The DD15 is a great addition to our component offerings," said Richard Shearing, manager of product strategy for Sterling Truck Corp. "It's a reliable, powerful engine that pairs well with our Set-Back A-Line and Set-Back L-Line models for a complete transportation package for LTL and on-highway applications."
The performance of the DD15 is due in part to its turbo compounding technology. At the rated speed of the DD15, the engine delivers up to 50 "free" horsepower without sacrificing fuel economy.
With its combination of exhaust gas recirculation and a particulate filter for reduced emissions, the DD15 is a global engine that is tailored to North America's EPA '07 emissions regulations. The DD15 is part of the Heavy-Duty Engine Platform, and in time, engines sharing this design will be available in all Daimler Trucks heavy-duty models around the world.
The DD15 is currently available for order, and will start being installed in Sterling trucks by the end of the quarter. For more information, visit www.sterlingtrucks.com or call (800) STL-HELP.
