Trucks are being forced to take longer non-Interstate routes in Pennsylvania due to new weight restrictions along some 1,000 bridges.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says the recent move is to help extend the life of the spans, after lawmakers there failed to increase money for bridge repairs earlier this year. It says the state has the highest number of structurally deficient bridges of any state.
