Rand McNally's TND760 device

Rand McNally has begun selling its TND 760 EOBR/fleet management solution at retail locations, with Travel Centers of American and Petro truckstops the first retailers to carry it.

TA also will offer professional installation services for the devices at select locations.

Launched one year ago, Rand McNally’s TND 760 is an electronic onboard recorder and mobile fleet management device that seamlessly integrates with a truck’s on-board computer. The device is full-featured yet cost-effective and includes the same award-winning Rand McNally navigation found on the company’s IntelliRoute TND truck GPS devices.

“Not all of our customers are large fleets. Many of our longstanding customers are owner-operators and small business owners who purchase our truck GPS devices and Motor Carriers’ Road Atlases at TA retail locations,” explained Dave Muscatel, CEO of Rand McNally. “It’s important that we offer the appropriate EOBR compliance and fleet management solutions there as well.”

Rand McNally officials were pleasantly surprised by the demand for the devices when they initially rolled out in 30 to 40 stores. "We stuck them on the shelf with no advertising, and they're selling more than we expected," said Mason Meadows, director of product development.

Those who purchase the TND 760 device at TA can sign up for a service plan at randmcnally.com/activation. Meadows points out that owner-operators and small fleet owners who just want an EOBR can start off for as little as $20 a month, or can buy expanded plans that offer analytics of data from the truck. "Nearly everyone buys the $40 full loaded plan," he says.

Installation can be done in less than 30 minutes by plugging it in with a single cable and using the suction mount included in the package. Or, you can have the device installed at 20 select TA locations beginning April 1. Installation services will be available at most TA locations in the near future.

Later in the year, TA also will sell Rand McNally’s recently announced HD 100 device, which turns the company’s Wi-Fi enabled IntelliRoute TND truck GPS devices into EOBR systems. The HD 100 provides electronic Hours of Service recording, text- and dispatch-integrated messaging plus driver performance monitoring capabilities.

Rand McNally will be rolling out the TND 760 to select online retailers as well.
