Maryland Gov. Fuel Tax Plan Similar to Virginia's

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has borrowed a page from Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s playbook, with proposed changes to the state’s tax on gasoline to raise highway funds. According to published reports there is no indication that it would affect the diesel fuel tax.

FMCSA Grants Petition Killing Alabama Steel Coil Transport Training and Certification

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has granted a petition submitted by the American Trucking Associations asking the agency to determine if Alabama's Metal Coil Securement Act is preempted by federal law. The ruling means the state can no longer impose the law's requirements on interstate movements, effective April 4.

Ironman Triathlete Prime Driver Publishes Book

Siphiwe Baleka, a former lease operator with Prime Inc., gave new meaning to the phrase “Driver Health and Fitness.” In April 2012, right after completing a three-year lease with Prime, Baleka competed in the Ironman South Africa triathlon, finishing the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run in 11 hours 59 minutes and 14 seconds.
