Energy Department Forecasting Lower Fuel and Crude Prices Into 2014

The new Short-Term Energy Outlook from the U.S. Energy Department’s Energy Information Administration says diesel fuel prices, which averaged $3.95 per gallon last summer, are projected to fall to an average of $3.88 per gallon this summer and move generally lower into 2014.

Diesel Moves Lower for 10th Straight Week, Oil & Gasoline Push Higher

The average U.S. cost of diesel has dropped for the 10th week in a row, down 0.6 cents from last week, coming in at $3.845 per gallon, according to new figures form the U.S. Energy Department.

Mack and Volvo Trucks Recalled Over Parking Brakes

Problems with a parking brake have led to a recall of Volvo and Mack trucks. Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 701 model year 2011-2013 VHD and VNL trucks manufactured Dec. 13, 2010, through July 17, 2012, while Mack Trucks is recalling 331 model year 2011-2013 CXU trucks manufactured Nov. 23, 2010, through March 19, 2012.

Several mainly truckload fleets have released first quarter results, with USA Truck and Frozen Food Express reporting narrower losses from a year ago, while Covenant Transport’s widened, P.A.M. Transportation went from a profit to a loss, and Patriot Transportation showed a bigger profit.

The top 5% distracted drivers of commercial vehicles are distracted 79% of the time during risky driving maneuver.
