Navistar announced that it is offering the Allison Transmission FuelSense fuel-efficiency package on its medium-duty and vocational truck models.

FuelSense adapts its shifts and torque to maximize efficiency based on the load, grade and duty cycle of the truck. Allison’s own tests show that fuel consumption rate was cut by up to 20% depending on duty cycle and application.

FuelSense features smart controls, acceleration management and a precision inclinometer. It has EcoCal shift technology to keep engine speed efficient and Dynamic Shift Sensing to sense when low-engine speed shifts can be made. The engine can shift to neutral when stopped to eliminate engine load, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions. FuelSense also includes acceleration rate management to match acceleration curves and control engine torque.

The FuelSense efficiency package is available on Allison’s 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 series transmissions and comes in three levels: FuelSense Basic, FuelSense Plus and FuelSense Max. It is an option on Navistar’s International ProStar, TerraStar, DuraStar, WorkStar and PayStar models.
