The Port of Virginia has relaunched its Green Operator Program, which provides up to $20,000 toward the purchase of clean-diesel trucks that service the port and up to $6,000 toward the purchase and installation of retrofit devices, announced Virginia Clean Cities (VCC).

The Green Operator Program, created in 2006, provides incentives to owners of trucks that service the port to replace early model trucks with newer trucks equipped with clean-diesel technology, This newly opened phase of the program furthers that original goal, according to VCC, which serves as a partner in the program.

Monetary incentives are offered to assist with the purchase of an MY-2008 or newer truck, or the purchase and installation of clean diesel technology for an existing truck, VCC said.

To date, the Port of Virginia Green Operator Program has replaced or retrofitted over 400 trucks, and reduced emissions from trucks servicing port facilities by as much as 25 percent, according to VCC.
