The American Trucking Associations State Laws Newsletter is reporting that rhe Governors Highway Safety Association has issued a compilation of state laws that limit or prohibit drivers' use of cell phones or texting.
Nine U.S. jurisdictions now ban the use of hand-held cell phones by drivers: CA, CT, DE, DC, MD, NJ, NY, OR, and WA. In all but Maryland, these are subject to primary enforcement.

No state bans all cell-phone use by all drivers, but in many places broader restrictions apply to new drivers and certain others. State texting prohibitions are much more common. For more details, go to www.ghsa.org. It might be noted that at least half the Canadian provinces also prohibit the use of hand-held cell phones by all drivers.
