The House has passed a bill that would extend the program until the end of this fiscal year, Sept. 30. The two chambers must reconcile their different approaches before the end of the month.

These measures also would restore close to $20 billion into the Highway Trust Fund. This probably would keep the Fund solvent until March of 2011, according to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
