Truck drivers in many areas of Texas will be subject to new anti-idling restrictions Tuesday as a state administrative code with exemptions is expiring
. While the previous code exempted idling during "government-mandated rest periods," truckers will now be cited for idling during their rest break with the expiration.
The rule only takes effect in those cities and counties that have signed a memorandum of agreement of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The rule applies to the following cities: Arlington, Austin, Bastrop, Benbrook, Celina, Cedar Hill, Colleyville, Dallas, Elgin, Euless, Georgetown, Hurst, Hutto, Keene, Lake Worth, Lancaster, Little Elm, Lockhart, Luling, Mabank, McKinney, Mesquite, North Richland Hills, Pecan Hill, Round Rock, Rowlett, San Marcos, University Park, and Westlake.
The legislation will also be enforced in these counties: Bastrop, Caldwell, Collin, Hays, Kaufman, Tarrant, Travis, and Williamson.
The American Transportation Research Institute has updated its listing of state and local idling regulations to reflect the new Texas rule. The list is available as a cab card that can be carried in the glove box of a truck and in an online compendium. To access the ATRI's list, go to www.atri-online.org.
