The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is giving the industry 15 days to comment on a proposed rulemaking that would raise fees for interstate commercial truck and bus companies, brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies under the Unified Carrier Registration
Plan for the registration year 2010.

The agency issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on the subject Friday, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

States have not received the UCR revenue required by law during the 2007-2009 registration years, the DOT says.

The rulemaking was proposed as a way to make up for that revenue through the increase in fees. The FMCSA also hopes the initiative will ramp up states' enforcement of the UCR fees rule.
