Opponents of the Boozman Amendment will hold a press conference in Washington, D.C., today according to a press release from the Teamster Union.
The release said the union will join representatives from Public Citizen and Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, among others.
The event is set for noon at The Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2167.
Legislation sponsored by Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark, would allow truck drivers to log up to two hours off-duty time during their daily tour of duty. The move is favored by many drivers, though not all. Critics say its primary impact would be to extend driver work hours to 16 a day.
Boozman represents the Third District of Arkansas, home to Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest private fleet operator and J.B. Hunt, the second-largest commercial truckload carrier.
