Truck tolls with double for trucks on Chicago area toll roads under a plan approved Thursday by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.
The Authority unanimously approved a 10-year $5.3 billion plan to rebuild and expand the 274-mile toll road system by raising tolls for trucks and some motorists.
Tolls for truckers will double in some cases. The authority agreed to reduce the increase for truckers during all but rush hours if they use the I-PASS electronic toll system. In 2008, when the tollways are converted to open tolling, all truckers will pay the higher toll.
