The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has increased tolls on the turnpike and its extensions by 5.3 cents per mile on average for commercial vehicles, bringing the rates to an average of 17.7 cents per mile.

As proposed, the toll will go up by 1.8 cents per mile to 5.9 cents per mile for passenger vehicles. The increases will go into effect Aug. 1.
Jim Runk, president of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Assn., said the sharp increase could force some trucking companies out of business, or seek alternative routes through or around Pennsylvania.
