The Military Traffic Management Command is reviewing its automation transportation systems to determine if they can be replaced with existing commercial software.

"Over the years we have developed stovepiped systems to fit separate transportation business processes," said John Smith, director, Deputy Chief of Staff Information Management. "We need to better leverage technology to keep pace with our business partners."
MTMC systems are not integrated, so it’s hard to develop a complete automation solution for customers and industry partners, he said. And while he doesn’t expect any commercial system to completely replace existing MTMC software, he says something between a 70 percent and 85 percent solution would be acceptable. "We will have to look at our business practices and see if we can live with the missing 15 percent."
The ultimate goal, he added, is to have a system that will give all customers and industry partners Web access to MTMC transportation services through a single Internet portal.
The first major system under review is the Integrated Booking System. Results could come as early as May.
