A North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles officer has been accused of accepting bribes from an undercover officer in exchange for not inspecting a trailer properly.
According to Associated Press reports, William F. Tingen Jr. was arrested late last week on charges of accepting a bribe, obstructing justice and failing to discharge his official duties. Tingen inspects trucks that pass through Randolph County in Asheboro, N.C. According to court records, an officer with the State Bureau of Investigation offered Tingen sex and money to forego the proper inspection. Tingen was arrested after allegedly accepting the bribes. Tingen, a nine-year employee of the DMV, has been suspended with pay. He was released from jail on a $2,500 bond and will appear in court on Oct. 31.
