U.S. Transportation Deputy Secretary Mortimer L. Downey will deliver the keynote speech today at a U.S. Department of Transportation conference on operator fatigue management.

The one-and-a-half day conference will bring together government, labor and industry representatives in an effort to improve the performance of not only truck drivers, but also operators in other modes of transportation, such as pilots and train engineers.
During the conference, members of the department's agencies will report on their activities concerning operator fatigue management and invite industry and labor to participate in this multi-year effort to improve safety.
The meeting is being held at the Sheraton Premiere Hotel in Vienna, Va.
