Environmental Group, State Attorneys Urge EPA to Keep Glider Kit GHG Rules

Environmental advocates, state attorneys general, and others are urging the Environmental Protection Agency to maintain the Obama administration’s ruling on glider kits under the Greenhouse Gas Phase 2 rules, calling the current efforts to reverse the rule at odds with the Clean Air Act.

EPA Proposal to Exempt Gliders from GHG Regs Draws Criticism in Hearing

Results reflect a 95% weighting of highway activity and 5% weighting of transient activity for a test vehicle with a combined weight of 60,000 pounds.

Opponents of the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to roll back the glider kit portion of its greenhouse gas emissions regulations testified Monday that the agency is ignoring its own research and that excepting gliders will put truck and engine makers at a significant competitive disadvantage.

The Environmental Protection Agency issued a proposed rule on Nov. 9 that would repeal emission requirements for glider vehicles, glider engines, and glider kits.

Phase 2 GHG Rules to Curtail Use of Glider Kits

Starting in January of 2021, under the new greenhouse gas regulations, glider kits will be allowed mostly for their original purpose, which was reclaiming late-model powertrains from wrecked trucks.
