Eaton, Cummins Show Direct Drive Powertrain, UltraShift Enhancements

Urge to Move feature in an UltraShift Plus vocational gearbox allowed easy starting of this 125,000-pound GCW rig on 8 and 15 percent upgrades at Eaton's Proving Grounds.

Eaton Expands Advantage Product Line, Adds Coast Mode to AMTs

Eaton now offers is Advantage Series transmission in more configurations to broaden its appear to different long-haul, linehaul and regional markets. The Advantage Series automated models now come with a fuel-saving coast mode to decrease parasitic drag on the drive train when operating on hilly terrain.

Navistar Rolls out New Efficiency Spec for ProStar

Navistar's new ProStar ES package includes a choice of the Maxxforce N13 engine coupled to an Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated transmission, or the Eaton Cummins SmartAdvantage powertrain, and high-efficiency 6X4 or 6X 2 drive axles and fuel-efficient tires.

Eaton Drops Hydraulic Hybrid System

Eaton's Hydraulic Launch Assist was well-suited to the refuse market, but natural gas seems to have overtaken hybrids in this market.

Eaton recently discontinued its Hydraulic Launch Assist system, a parallel hydraulic hybrid well-suited to the stop-and-go world of refuse trucks. That leaves the RunWise Advanced Series Hybrid drive system from Parker to serve the market, where both systems had built up some market share.

Cummins, Eaton to Offer Integrated ‘Powertrain Package’

SmarTorque2 ISX15 mates with Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated mechanical transmission via special programming to “downspeed” cruising RPMs and yield high efficiency, the companies say.

Cummins Inc. and Eaton Corp. have devised a fuel-saving, integrated engine-transmission combination that will rival proprietary offerings from some truck builders.
