Diesel Cost Moves Higher After Seven Weekly Declines

The average cost of on-highway diesel has moved higher after falling for seven straight weeks. Trucking's main fuel is up 3.7 cents from last week at $3.919 per gallon. Compared to a year ago it is 8.1 cents higher.

Revival in construction activity is driving healthy sales of vocational trucks, a recently launched highway tractor has become a “home run,” and interest in natural gas power should cause that segment to grow to 15-20% of heavy truck sales by 2020, Kenworth Truck Co. representatives said at a briefing for reporters Friday morning.

Daimler Trucks Hits SuperTruck Goals Ahead of Schedule

Daimler Trucks North America said Thursday it has realized the objectives of its SuperTruck program one year ahead of schedule. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the SuperTruck program is an ambitious five-year research and development initiative focused on improving freight efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of Class 8 trucks.

EVO CNG, Trillium CNG Open First CNG Fueling Station in Joint Venture

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was on hand to celebrate the opening of the EVO Trillium CNG facility in Oak Creek Wisconsin.

EVO CNG and its joint venture partner, Trillium CNG, celebrated the grand opening this week of what they say is the largest compressed natural gas fueling station in Wisconsin, located in Oak Creek, and the first to open in their partnership.

Clarke Power assembled this Freightliner glider with a Detroit Series 60 engine equipped with APG’s dual-fuel system, enabling it to run on natural gas and diesel. Gas is stored in liquefied form on this tractor.
