Convoy has developed a grab-and-go system for its trailer pool that lets carriers bring only a power unit to pick up a preloaded Convoy trailer. The idea, according to Convoy, is to increase access for smaller power-only fleets to loads that would otherwise be handled by a fleet owning a large number of trailers.

By contrast, currently some shippers require trucking companies to drop empty trailers at distribution centers so freight can be preloaded before drivers arrive. That requires a fleet to have access to a surplus of trailers, which can keep smaller carriers from being able to take on these loads.

The company is currently operating power-only shipments with its Universal Trailer Pool with shippers in select areas, but has future plans to expand nationally.
