President Trump has nominated Paul Trombino to be the administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, replacing current acting administrator Brandye Hendrickson.

Trombino is currently the president of McClure Engineering Company, a civil engineering company focused on transportation, aviation, water, and structures projects. He served as the director of the Iowa Department of Transportation from 2011-2016 and served as the president of the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials from 2015-2016. He also served as the 2016 vice-chair of the Transportation Research Board executive committee.

Trombino has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Iowa and Wisconsin.

Hendrickson was named the deputy administrator for FHWA earlier this year, becoming the acting administrator until the position was filled.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials expressed support for President Trump’s pick, saying Trombino has been an important leader in transportation in his career. AASHTO represents the state Departments of Transportation in all 50 states, as well as in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

“His emphasis on transportation as a key part of economic development – particularly the movement of freight and goods in a global economy – has helped frame national policy and investments,” said Bud Wright, AASHTO executive director. “We look forward to working closely with Administrator-nominee Trombino and the Federal Highway Administration on important issues facing the national transportation system, including the deployment of new technologies that increase safety and improve efficiency; streamlining project delivery to ensure the American public gets the best value on its transportation investments; and addressing the long-term stability of the Highway Trust Fund.”
