Continental Commercial Vehicles and Aftermarket released a free update to VDO RoadLog ELD software addressing the 34-hour restart suspension. The software updates are available online to registered VDO RoadLog users.

The update addresses the FMCSA’s recent suspension of a requirement that drivers take off two consecutive periods of 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. during a 34-hour restart and only one restart in any 168 hour period. Drivers are still required to account for a 30 minute break during a shift.

The update was made available on Jan. 26. If the suspension is overturned in the future, Continental will again provide free software updates to accommodate the new rules, the company says.

VDO Roadlog is a standalone electronic logging device that provides a plug and play solution for compliance reporting. It combines GPS data with input from the vehicle to create a digital log that is downloadable and printable.
