The Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association’s eighth annual Truckers for Troops care package campaign raised more than $52,000 to pack and send care packages to service members in combat areas.

The fundraiser took place during the week of Veterans Day. OOIDA is currently looking for addresses for sending packages and receiving personal letters and cards to include with the donations.

The first care packages will be sent out in mid-January. In the past, recipients of care packages post photos and notes to the Truckers for Troops Facebook page, says OOIDA.

“We thank our members for making it all possible and hope they continue to follow updates on social media,” said Norita Taylor, an OOIDA spokesperson.

Cards and letters are starting to arrive, but OOIDA encourages people who would like to participate to send more in.

“Each year we receive handmade cards or letters from a variety of groups and individuals,” says Taylor. “They add a personal touch to the packages.”

OOIDA has been raising money for the Truckers for Troops program since 2007 and has collected more than $458,500 and sent more than 2,500 care packages to nearly 30,000 military personnel.

For anyone with a family member or friend serving in a war zone who would like them to receive a package, send the name and address to troops@ooida.com.

Cards and letters can be mailed as well to the following address:

Attention: Truckers for Troops,

P.O. Box 1000

Grain Valley, MO 64029

There is no theme required, as packages will be sent out after the holidays.
