SmartDrive Systems announced Wednesday it added a custom coaching and scoring feature to its on-board video-based safety system.

The company said fleets can “tune the program” to meet their specific priorities and policies. Starting with the company’s best practice program designed for specific operating environment and vehicle type, fleets can customize the program to meet their requirements and to combine their existing safety policies with SmartDrive’s best practices. SmartDrive said its safety experts, with expertise in specific industry verticals, work with their customers to determine the appropriate customization.

The system captures video footage before and after a safety incident which is then reviewed by SmartDrive’s experts who note unsafe situations, recommend areas for coaching and calculate a risk score.

According to the company, the new coaching and scoring feature allows specific risk areas to be weighted higher or lower, depending upon a fleet’s safety policies. The coaching priorities can also be set by the fleet.
