Gloria Werner, one of the co-founders of the trucking company Werner Enterprises, died on May 20 at the age of 79.

She and then-husband, Clarence Werner, started the company in 1956 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, moving to Omaha, Neb., its current headquarters, in 1977, according to the Omaha World-Herald. She started out doing the bookkeeping, and eventually oversaw financial transactions and handled regulatory reporting to various government agencies, before retiring 30 years ago.

Since the company started it went from having one truck to an estimated 7,000 company-owned tractors and owner-operators, along with around 11,000 employees today.

More details are on the website of the Omaha World-Herald newspaper.
