American Central Transport is raising pay for company drivers and independent contractors.

Effective June 1, company drivers at the Missouri-based fleet will receive a 1 cent per mile pay increase for all miles. Independent contractors will receive 3 cents per mile more for all miles, moving it up to $1.03 per mile.

"We want to stay best in class when it comes to our support staff, our equipment and our pay, the things that let our drivers and contractors know we value them and the talent and hard work they bring to Act," said Phillip Wilt, senior vice president of human resources and safety.

According to a release from the dry van truckload carrier, company drivers can earn up to $.46 per mile under its productivity bonus program.
