Rates on the spot market have recovered after generally moving lower a week earlier, according to new figures released from the freight matching service provider DAT.

From March 16 through 22 compared to the previous seven days, flatbeds posted the biggest gain, 2.4%, hitting an average of $2.15 per mile while vans and reefers each increased 1.4%. The hike pushed vans to $2.09 per mile while reefers jumped to $2.21 per mile. All are near or better than their respective four-week highs.

This happened despite overall load volume tapering off by 3.9% while truck capacity recovered by 4.6%.

Load-to-truck volumes during the period were mixed with it increasing 8.4% for flatbeds but it fell for both vans and reefers, down 11% and 19%, respectively.
