The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will publish a rule next week containing tough new sanctions against carriers that disregard safety rules.

Under the rule, the agency will impose the ultimate penalty, loss of registration, on truck and bus operations that show egregious disregard for the rules.

The sanctions cover carriers that let someone who has shown disregard for the rules control their operations. They also cover carriers that operate multiple entities to conceal non-compliance.

Look for details early next week.
