Illinois' Arsenal Road Ramp to Open off of I-55
A new exit for Arsenal Road off of I-55 in Illinois is scheduled to open the week of Sept. 24
A new exit for Arsenal Road off of I-55 in Illinois is scheduled to open the week of Sept. 24.
The Illinois Department of Transportation recently announced the $68.7 million construction project was nearing an its end, and that the new northbound I-55 exit for Arsenal Road will be located about one mile south of the existing ramp.
Once the new ramp is open, the IDOT will close the old Arsenal Road exit.
The new interchange will feature a fly-over ramp for southbound traffic on Interstate 55 exiting to Arsenal Road. The east and west Frontage Roads will be reconstructed in a new configuration and a new structure will carry the West Frontage Connector Road over Interstate 55. The project when completed will improve highway safety, traffic flow and improve the efficiency of the interchange.
The IDOT expects the project to be wrapped up next year. "We still anticipate completion of the new ramps and opening the roadways in Fall of 2012. Non-essential work not affecting the openings will continue into 2013," stated the IDOT's website.
For more information on the project, visit the IDOT website at www.dot.il.gov/I55arsenal/index.html.
