An online forum May 16 will give motor carriers the opportunity to provide input to the proposed Survey of Truck Driver Injury and Health being conducted by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

The NIOSH survey is being designed to address several important questions, including the prevalence of health conditions and sleep disorders in the truck driver population, the role of working conditions in driver health, and the relationship between work activities and driver injuries.

The webinar is sponsored by The American Transportation Research Institute, the research arm of the American Trucking Associations. It offers the opportunity for the trucking industry to provide input on the survey questions so that the focus is on the most important driver health issues. Input is also needed to identify appropriate locations for conducting the survey to ensure broad industry representation.

"It is critical that motor carriers participate in the design of this survey so that the questions are useful to the industry in addressing driver health," said Scott Mugno, managing director of corporate safety for FedEx Express.

Motor carriers can simultaneously listen and watch the live webinar from any location in the U.S. that has internet and telephone access. The event will be held Friday, May 16, starting at 2 p.m. EDT and ending at 3:30. To register, or for more information, send an email to ATRI@trucking.org and include the words "H/W Webinar" in the subject line.
