Contract Freighters Inc. (CFI), a Con-way company and international truckload carrier based in Joplin, Mo., said that beginning Dec. 21, new driver teams joining the company will have the option to drive a new 2008 Kenworth T660 or
2008 Freightliner Cascadia truck.
The new, roomier over-the-road trucks are being made available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 236 qualified teams hired. CFI selected the Kenworth and Cascadia models in direct response to driver feedback, which cited larger trucks as a top priority.
The Kenworth T660 features an 86-inch studio sleeper, providing an additional 14 inches lengthwise in the sleeper area. Additional safety and comfort amenities include air-ride suspension, a slot specifically designed for a refrigerator and improved aerodynamics. Similarly, the Freightliner Cascadia offers reduced aerodynamic drag, an open, roomier cab and advanced suspension technology.
CFI responded to the request for larger, more comfortable trucks as part of its recently announced enhanced pay package, which also increased driver pay-per-mile and incorporated a number of other driver favorites.
"We understand that for an over-the-road driver, their truck is their home away from home, and superior performance and comfort are critical," said Bruce Stockton, vice president maintenance and asset management for CFI.
Drivers interested in this offer can call CFI's recruiting department at (800) CFI-DRIVE (800-234-3748). Some qualifications and restrictions may apply.
Acquired by Con-way this year, CFI was combined with Con-way Truckload to create an organization that employs over 3,000 drivers with a fleet of more than 2,700 tractors and 8,600 trailers operating throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The company provides full-truckload transportation serving the transcontinental shipping needs of commercial and industrial businesses as well as sister company Con-way Freight.
