Barr-Nunn Transportation believes that trucking and the military go hand-in-hand. With military drivers having strict regimens of traveling, discipline, timeliness, structure and professionalism, the crossover into life as a civilian
is made into an easy one.
That’s because the skills required to drive over the road are the same, says Bob Sturgeon, owner of Barr-Nunn, who along with his son, is a former Marine.
The Veterans Alliance Program will give veterans who have 18 months of military tractor-trailer experience and at least six months of commercial over the road, tractor-trailer experience credit up to a year base pay rate of $.40 cpm on Practical Mile Pay.
The program includes a 2-cent-per-mile 401(k) program, fast pay raises, appreciation bonuses, guaranteed hometime and more.
The program expectations will be for qualified veterans to attend orientation at either of the main terminals in Granger, Iowa, or Washington Court House, Ohio, under Barr-Nunn’s driver refresher program. The driver refresher program consists of regular orientation plus three to five days with a trainer. Drivers will receive $70 a day while training. The sign on bonus of $1,000 will be paid when the driver graduates orientation, completes training period and is released as a solo driver.
