New Century Transportation Inc., Westampton, N.J., has announced an increase in its professional driver compensation, effective April 16, 2006.

The top rate for all road drivers will increase to .50½ cents per mile. This means all new drivers who can verify at least 12 years of professional tractor-trailer driving experience will start at 50½ cents per mile. In addition, the LTL Division of New Century pays road and regional drivers $15 for each LTL delivery and pickup.
New Century requires its drivers to be at least 25 years of age, have a minimum of three years of professional tractor-trailer driving experience and a hazmat endorsement on the their CDL. Road drivers with the minimum experience level will start at 42.7 cents per mile, plus $15 per stop. New England regional drivers are paid at the rate of 56 cents per mile plus $15 per stop. New Century Teams split 52½ cents per mile, run consistent miles and split $15 per stop.
Local drivers at New Century are paid by the hour. The top rate for local drivers based in Westampton, is $22.68 per hour. The top rate for local drivers based in Duncan, S.C., is $17.51 per hour.
In addition, all New Century professional drivers receive health care, dental coverage, vision care, $30,000 life insurance, seven paid holidays, five paid personal days, up to four weeks paid vacation and a 401k savings plan with company match. The 401k-company match is 100 percent vested immediately.
According to John Zimmerman, manager of driver recruiting, New Century company drivers averaged more than $72,000 in 2005. This number takes into consideration all drivers who were employed by the company as of Jan. 1, 2005.
New Century Transportation services customers throughout the 48 contiguous states with a fleet of modern equipment, including Freightliner, International and Kenworth tractors pulling dry vans, heated dry vans and reefers.
