Transportation industry association and technology provider SMC³ is establishing a special fund with the American Red Cross to provide aid to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

In a call to fellow transportation industry professionals nationwide, Jack E. Middleton, SMC³’s president and CEO, detailed relief fund plans to members, customers and contacts in a personal letter. Because the fund is meant to show solidarity of support from the transportation industry, the fund has been named “TransSupport.”
“We’re reaching out across the industry to contact those individuals and organizations who, like us, have a strong desire to help the survivors of Katrina get closer to resuming some form of normalcy in their lives,” said Middleton. “While SMC³ typically responds within itself to contribute aid for disaster relief, we felt that a greater impact could be made.”
To add to the impact of the donations SMC³ and other organizations will make to the TransSupport fund, SMC³ is matching the first $10,000 donated.
SMC³ will accept individual and corporate donations to the TransSupport fund through Sept. 30. To donate, checks made payable to the American Red Cross should be mailed to the TransSupport Fund, c/o SMC³, 500 Westpark Drive, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
All donations received will be sent in bulk directly to the American Red Cross each Tuesday and Friday through Sept. 30. Then, on Oct. 3, SMC³ will notify all donors of the grand total of the fund’s donations.
