Donald G. Oren, who has been president, will now serve as chairman of the board.
The move brings the third generation of the Oren family into Dart’s presidential office. Founded in 1934 by Earl Oren, Don’s father and David’s grandfather, Dart grew rapidly in the 1980s when Don became president and focused the company on pioneering high cube trailer service. Under his leadership, Dart lead the trucking industry into longer trailers, first with 45 foot trailers, then to 48’s and eventually to 53’s.
David helped pioneer thin-wall trailer designs when legal trailer width changed to 102 inches. He holds patents on features related to the design of thin-wall extra-high cube vans. He also spearheaded development of Dart’s proprietary D-4000 computer system, and has overseen the sales planning, operations, marketing and contractor recruiting efforts for the past several years during another period of significant growth.
David started with Dart as a youth in 1975, working part time as a general laborer in the company’s trailer repair shop. He has learned the trucking business from the ground up, rising through the ranks to become executive vice president and now president.
Two other sons, Dan and Brad, are also part of Dart’s management team and continue in their current roles.
Dart Transit specializes in truckload dry van freight. It offers 48-state, dedicated, and regional service with independent owner-operators.
