Earlier this month, Dart Transit Co. honored its contractors who have safely driven a million miles during a Contractor Appreciation Days picnic.

The contractors each received buttons and pens that read, “Thanks a Million.”
In the past 20 years, Dart Transit Co. has awarded more than 500 of its contractors with the National Safety Council’s One Million Mile Award.
The company has recognized more than 90 contractors with the Two Million Mile Award, and 20 contractors with the Three Million Mile Award. Two Dart contractors have driven four million miles.
“When you drive that many miles accident free, and qualify for an award, that denotes professionalism,” said Dart Safety Director Steve Kaufmann. “These contractors operate in all types of weather and traffic on the road. That requires great concentration and expertise.”
It generally takes contractors between seven and 10 years to qualify for the award. “The National Safety Council’s awards are very prestigious, so we are incredibly proud of the awards we give out,” said Kaufmann. “Million-mile awards are a biography of a person’s driving life. When someone sees a plaque on a truck it says a lot about the person who received it.”
Dart’s award winning professional driver development program includes a yearly driver improvement course, safety advisors, driver performance analysis, and professional recognition.
