Utah-based C.R. England Inc., one of the oldest and largest family-owned trucking companies in the United States, has announced its 1,000th independent lease contractor.

“Independent carriers are quickly becoming the majority,” said C.R. England director Bud Pierce. “It’s a win-win situation for the drivers, our customers and the company, because with the increase in independent carriers we’re experiencing an increase in on-time performance, safety performance and profitability.”
C.R. England started its lease program in 1997 and recently reached the milestone for independent lease contractors thanks to its incentive programs and strong driver support.
Through its "Golden Opportunity Leasing Program" the 85-year-old trucking company will lease a top-of-the-line, upscale conventional truck without making the typical $9,000 - $10,000 down payment and no credit checks. Plus a Short-Term Lease Program allows drivers to “test drive” being an independent carrier with the option to cancel after six months instead of the typical three-year lease. If the driver doesn’t like leasing, they can cancel and just walk away or join C.R. England’s workforce as a company driver.
“We look beyond the applicant’s financial status when leasing,” said Pierce. “We also consider their work history. We feel a good work ethic is commensurate with quality and on-time service.”
C.R. England also offers a Business 101 class to give new independent carriers a solid business foundation to succeed.
C.R. England has more than 4,350 employees, drivers and owner-operators, more than 2,600 trucks and 4,100 trailers.
