FedEx Freight, the LTL member of the FedEx family, announced the opening of five new service centers as part of its expansion throughout the United States:

* A new 22,000-sq. ft. service center in New Haven, Conn., replaces an 18,000-sq. ft. facility. The new center is located on four acres near Interstate 95 and has 49 doors - 19 more than the previous facility. The center provides service to the southern region of Connecticut and parts of New York and Rhode Island.
* A 32-door center on three acres in Avon, Mass., replaces a 20-door facility. The new center has nearly 16,000 square feet of office, dock and shop space, making it almost 30 percent larger than the former Avon facility.
* A new 16,000-sq. ft. service center has opened in Grand Rapids, Mich. The new center, positioned on a 4.8-acre site near Interstate 96, is equipped with 48 doors, 12 more than the previous facility. The center's service area covers the Grand Rapids metropolitan area, Lakeshore and western Michigan.
* A newly constructed 36-door service center on six acres near Staunton, Va., has replaced a 10-door center. With more than 17,000 square feet of dock and office space, the new facility is nearly three times larger than the previous center. The center is strategically located near the intersection of Interstates 64 and 81 to serve the Charlottesville and Harrisonburg areas, and the eastern portion of West Virginia.
* A new 17-door Wilmington, N.C., center replaces a 10-door center in Leland. Located on a five-acre parcel close to Interstate 40, the facility has 6,000 square feet of office and dock space. The center provides FedEx Freight services to the Wilmington metropolitan area and the southeastern portion of North Carolina.
The announcement of these new centers follows recent openings and expansions this year, including the addition of a new center in Gardena, Calif.; expanded facilities in Youngstown, Ohio, Pocono Summit, Pa., and Babylon, N.Y.; and new company facilities in Des Plaines, Ill., Salem, Ore., Texarkana, Ark., and Springfield, Mass. In addition, groundbreaking ceremonies are planned this summer for FedEx Freight facilities in Sacramento, Newark and Atlanta.
FedEx Freight segment of Fedex Corpl had annual revenues of $3.2 billion in fiscal year 2005.
