Barr-Nunn, an Iowa-based, family owned dry-van truckload carrier, has aggressively moved toward more dedicated tours to accommodate its drivers.
"Twelve months ago, we were an over-the-road, regional carrier," said Doug Albrecht, director of recruiting. "Today, 20% of our fleet is on some type of dedicated tour or scheduled freight. As a result, our turnover has been reduced dramatically."
These tours have weekly scheduled freight and offer company drivers and owner-operators higher than industry standard pay and home time. "We are finding this type of system is what drivers want.
