Barr-Nunn, an Iowa-based, family owned dry-van truckload carrier, has aggressively moved toward more dedicated tours to accommodate its drivers.

"Twelve months ago, we were an over-the-road, regional carrier," said Doug Albrecht, director of recruiting. "Today, 20% of our fleet is on some type of dedicated tour or scheduled freight. As a result, our turnover has been reduced dramatically."
These tours have weekly scheduled freight and offer company drivers and owner-operators higher than industry standard pay and home time. "We are finding this type of system is what drivers want. They want to be paid well, know in advance what their next load is, and they want quality home time with their families," said Albrecht. "Barr-Nunn is providing this and a whole lot more with our increased fleet size and low turnover proving it."
Barr-Nunn operates about 700 units and 1,700 trailers. The company offers both company and owner-operator driving opportunities.
