IdleAire Technologies, the nation’s largest travel center shorepower electrification provider, signed agreements with 107 new fleets in the second quarter of 2004.

A total of 402 fleets with 107,818 trucks have signed agreements that allow their drivers to pay for IdleAire Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) shorepower services using the fleet’s credit card. Among those fleets are Continental, Wiley Sanders, TSMT and Arrow Trucking.
"We’re making every attempt to keep our rates down for our customers and improving the working environment for our drivers by taking fiscally responsible actions, like providing our drivers access to the IdleAire system," said Joe Taylor, director of driver services, fuel and equipment utilization for Oklahoma-based Arrow Trucking, which has 1,500 drivers.
"IdleAire is a logical way for us to reduce costs and retain our drivers by improving their work environment. That all goes toward being able to manage rates for our customers." Arrow said it has saved nearly 8,000 gallons of diesel fuel in two months since signing with IdleAire.
IdleAire recently opened its 17th site, in Santa Nella, Calif., and expects to bring three more sites – in Madera, Calif., Paulsboro, N.J., and Mebane, N.C. – on line this month. This month and next, the company expects to break ground on sites in Newnan, Ga., Anderson, S.C., El Paso, Texas, Gary, Ind., and has 21 additional sites in various stages of design and engineering.
IdleAire currently has 439 travel centers under exclusive, long-term agreement. Being installed across the country, IdleAire’s system allows truck drivers to access electrical shorepower, central heat and air, and a range of communications and entertainment services in the truck cab without idling their engines during mandated daily rest breaks.
To date, drivers have used the IdleAire system more than 1.7 million hours, eliminating more than 18,000 metric tons of diesel emissions from the air and saving 1.7 million gallons of fuel.
