Transport America, Eagan, Minn., has announced a new orientation plan for owner-operators.

The new plan allows owner-operators to haul their first load for the carrier on the way to orientation. "This means owner-operators never have a down period when they come to work for Transport America," said Larry Bailey, director of recruiting. "They can leave a company, come to work for us and make money on the same day, without ever missing a paycheck."
Many carriers offer a modest orientation bonus, but an owner-operator can lose up to a week in revenue when changing employers. With Transport America’s new plan, an owner-operator’s revenue stream isn’t disrupted. The orientation lasts two-and-a-half days, and Transport America provides motel accommodations and meals.
Owner-operators receive payment for loaded and empty miles and have all the miles they want. Transport America pays for all permits and tolls. And the company offers $ure Pay, which allows owner-operators to verify and approve their pay. The firm has a passenger program, guaranteed Get Home Certificates, pre-planned loads and bonuses. In addition, owner-operators receive a discount on services and maintenance at Transport America’s Support Centers, special prices on tires, and fuel discounts. Rates on insurance and a retirement plan are also available.
Established in 1984, Transport America has become one of the country’s leading providers of transportation and logistics services. The company specializes in providing time-definite and other responsive services.
