Singling out a baker's dozen of the nation's safest truck drivers, Overnite Transportation has announced the names of its 2004 All-Star Road Team.

Selected from more than 6,000 Overnite drivers, the 13 who were chosen have logged more than 32 million accident-free miles.
This year's team marks the seventh time the Virginia-based company has honored its best by appointing them as safety ambassadors for Overnite and the trucking industry.
Leading this year's honorees is team captain David Loyd, a 17-year employee from Sacramento, Calif. Loyd, an award-winning driver who has logged more than 1.5 million accident-free miles during his career with the company, is joined by Mark Asbury, a city driver from Kansas City, Mo.; Atlanta road driver John Blow; Harrisburg, Pa., road driver James Campbell; Memphis, Tenn., city driver Ricky Harris; Harrisburg, Pa., city driver Joseph Hixson; Louisville, Ky., city driver Doug King; and Richmond, Va., city driver Harold Lafon.
The remainder of the team includes Fontana, Calif., road driver Michael Raarup; Springfield, Mo., road driver John Richardson; Indianapolis city driver John Rollyson; Greensboro, N.C., city driver Brian Walker; and road driver Wayne Tucker of Greenville, S.C. Tucker is from the company's Special Services Truckload Division.
"These drivers are truly the best of the best," said Phil Warren, vice president of safety and security.
Selection of Overnite's road team members is based on a driver's safety record, community and company involvement, performance, communication skills and driving awards. Modeled after the American Trucking Assns.' America's Road Team, Overnite All-Stars serve for one year, making public appearances to speak about safety issues and driver professionalism to students, trade groups, civic organizations and in media interviews across the country.
The All-Star team also includes five honorary members -- Overnite drivers who have been recognized by the ATA as America's Road Team Captains. They are: Oklahoma City road driver Robert Akers, Memphis, Tenn., road driver Thomas Hawks, Charleston, W.Va., road driver Roger Lanham; Kansas City, Kan., city driver Joe Webster; and Harrisburg, Pa., road driver Bill Adams, who currently serves on America's Road Team.
