The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Trumbull Corp. will reopen the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel three weeks ahead of schedule.

Both the inbound and outbound bridge and tunnel will be closed from Friday, Aug. 15 at 10 p.m. until Saturday, Aug. 16 at 9 a.m.
The outbound bridge and tunnel will remain closed for one week after the reopening of the inbound lanes to remove crossovers and detours, and will reopen by Saturday, Aug. 23.
The most significant continuing detour will affect motorists heading eastbound for Oakland and I-376 (Parkway East). Rather than proceeding through the newly opened tunnel, this traffic will continue to use the detour Route 51 to the West End and Fort Duquesne Bridges to the interstate connector ramp to the Parkway East. The Parkway East ramp from the Ft. Pitt Bridge will be completed in late September.
These changes will conclude the $84-million bridge and tunnel reconstruction final phase of the 10-year, $200-plus million project.
